State Building Code Academy The State Building Code Academy will now provide administrative and technical code training classes to meet mandated certification requirements. The following is the procedure for certification as a residential (B-1) inspector: 1. The candidate shall submit a resume with detailed "Residential Work Experience" satisfying the minimum requirements under Option I or Option II of Professional Qualifications by email to the Office of the Building Code Commissioner at DBR.StateBuildingOffice@dbr.ri.gov. 2. If minimum qualifications are met, the candidate shall be scheduled to appear for an interview before the certification sub-committee for “certified eligible” status pending completion of the state mandated certification class. 3. The candidate shall satisfactorily complete the State Building Code Academy program within one year of obtaining certified eligible status- The State Building Code Academy will be offered to all “certified eligible” inspectors free of charge, on an as-needed basis throughout the year.
