Laws, Rules and Regulations

The State Building Code consists of three separate components:

• The administrative statutes found in RI General Laws sections 23-27.3-100.0 through 23-27.3-703
• The regulatory rules & regulations found in 510-RICR-00-00-1 through 510-RICR-00-00-21
• The various ICC & NFPA codes incorporated by reference.

• Effective December 1, 2025, the State of Rhode Island has incorporated by reference the 2021 editions of the ICC codes along with RI amendments. Note that the adopted edition of the National Electrical Code [NEC] is the 2023 edition and the adopted edition of the International Energy Conservation Code [IECC] is the 2024 edition.
