Laws, Rules and Regulations

The State Building Code consists of three separate components:

The administrative statutes found in RI General Laws sections 23-27.3-100.0 through 23-27.3-703
The regulatory rules & regulations found in 510-RICR-00-00-1 through 510-RICR-00-00-21
The various International Code Council [ICC] & National Fire Protection Association [NFPA] codes incorporated by reference.

Effective December 1, 2025, the State of Rhode Island has incorporated by reference the 2021 editions of the below listed ICC & NFPA codes along with RI amendments. (Note that the adopted edition of the National Electrical Code [NEC] is the 2023 edition and the adopted edition of the International Energy Conservation Code [IECC] is the 2024 edition.)
